Sucampo hires new senior vice president

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, a Maryland-based firm focused on the development of drugs based on prostones, has hired Silvia Taylor as senior vice president of investor relations, public relations and corporate communications, reporting to chief financial officer Cary Claiborne.

Taylor graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in international relations and business, and earned an MBA from Columbia Business School.

She has 20 years of experience in marketing and communications, including 13 years of brand marketing within the biopharmaceutical sphere.

Her role at Sucampo will cover not only investor relations, but also public and media relations as well as internal communications.

She is joining the company from MedImmune, a biotechnology company, where she served as director of marketing for its respiratory syncytial virus franchise from 2007 to 2009 and as senior director of global influenza marketing from 2010 to 2012.

From 2004 to 2007, she was a marketing director at pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, focussing on the Viagra and Exubera brands. Prior to this she worked in the company’s consumer marketing department on patient-directed communications.

Sucampo recently started a corporate awareness campaign to increase the market visibility of its proprietary prostone technology, which targets diseases affecting an aging population, with flagship products such as Amitiza and Rescula.
