Life Technologies promotes Carol Cox

Life Technologies, the California-headquartered biotechnology company, has created a new department incorporating corporate communications, IR, strategic branding and government relations, and promoted Carol Cox to senior vice president of external affairs and corporate communications.

Cox graduated with a BA in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia in 1987 and has more than 20 years’ experience in the medical and pharmaceuticals sector. She joined Life Technologies in 2011 to serve as vice president of IR.

From 2009 to 2011, she was vice president of IR for CareFusion, a technology firm serving the healthcare sector, where she established and developed the division following the 2009 spin-off from medical distributor Cardinal Health.

Prior to this, she spent 13 years at Barr Pharmaceuticals, including seven years in the investor relations department as vice president and subsequently senior vice president, as well as four years as director of corporate communications and two years as manager of government affairs. Barr, which was acquired in 2008 by generic drug developer Teva Pharmaceuticals, won several awards for its IR achievements from Institutional Investor.

Life Technologies is listed on NASDAQ and achieved $3.7 bn in revenue last year. The company maintains a portfolio of 4,000 patents and markets more than 50,000 products with flagship brands such as Ambion, Novex, Invitrogen, Ion Torrent and Applied Biosystems.

In 2009 Life Technologies was recognized for its environmental efforts when it was named both to the Bloomberg-Maplecroft Climate Innovation Index Leaders and to America’s 500 largest green corporations by Newsweek.
