CIRI appoints new board leader

CIRI has appointed Meghan Brown, currently director of IR at mine operator Endeavour Silver, to serve as the new chair of the trade body’s board of directors. She will succeed George Kesteven, who will stay on as a member of the board under the title of ‘past chair’.

With more than 20 years of experience in the investor relations and communications spheres in the resource sector, Brown has already brought her expertise to bear on the CIRI board since 2011. Before joining Endeavour Silver, she worked in similar roles at Suncor Energy, TransCanada and Ventana Gold Corp.

She also served for two years as president of CIRI British Columbia, and currently holds several posts in CIRI’s national organization, including co-chair of the human resource and corporate governance committees. In a press release published by the trade body, Brown says she is ‘honored and excited’ to take on the role and work with an ‘exceptionally talented’ team.

‘CIRI is a leader in advancing the IR profession and George has played a key role in promoting its mandate over his term as chair,’ Brown continues. ‘With George’s support in the role of past chair, I look forward to contributing to the future direction and growth of the organization.’

Yvette Locker, CIRI’s CEO and president, says Brown’s ‘extensive experience’ at both large and small-cap companies will be invaluable in her new position. ‘This, coupled with her ongoing involvement with CIRI through the chapter and national boards, will serve CIRI well as the organization continues to contribute to the integrity of the capital markets and strives to advance the practice of investor relations,’ Locker adds.

CIRI also took the opportunity to announce the addition of several new directors to its ranks. Most are important figures in Canada’s investor relations profession and include IR Magazine Award winner Rudy Sankovic of TD Bank, John Cobb of Keyera Corp and Danis Jasmin, head of IR at SNC-Lavalin.

Brown notes that CIRI is ‘incredibly fortunate’ to have such talented figures joining the organization. ‘Each of these new directors brings extensive IR skills and experience to the board, and I am delighted to have them join the team,’ she concludes.
