Goldman Sachs IRO expands role into coaching

Goldman Sachs has announced that Dane Holmes, its global head of IR of nine years, is taking on responsibility for the bank’s leadership program.

An architecture graduate of Columbia University, Holmes joined Goldman Sachs from JPMorgan in 2001 to serve in the investment banking division’s financial institutions group. He was made a partner in 2010.

In addition to heading the IR program – including debt IR, rating agencies relationships and corporate governance engagement – Holmes will now take charge of Pine Street, the bank’s leadership development program, which offers executive coaching and training to partners and managing directors.

He is also joining the firm’s partnership committee and in his new role reports to Pine Street co-chairs John Rogers, the firm’s chief of staff, and Edith Cooper, head of human capital management, according to Reuters.

While senior IROs often see other responsibilities such as treasury, corporate communications or public affairs added to their remit, only on rare occasions are they seen branching out into HR activities. One recent notable example is Ruth Cotter, head of IR at AMD, who was promoted to senior vice president of human resources, corporate communications & IR after having served in the US semiconductor manufacturer’s IR department since 2002.
