CN names successor to Janet Drysdale

IRO Paul Butcher has been promoted to succeed Janet Drysdale as head of IR at Canadian National Railway (CN).

Paul Butcher, CN

An economics graduate from the University of Montreal, Butcher started his career as an economist at Informetrica before joining CN in 1993 to work as a project officer in financial planning.

He subsequently moved to the marketing division, serving in the revenue planning, metals and minerals and intermodal groups and in 2009 was appointed senior IR manager.

Drysdale, who took over in 2012 from veteran Robert Noorigian, a five-time winner of IR Magazine’s best IRO award, stepped down in February this year to join the corporate development team as vice president.

Her achievements are no less impressive. During her mandate, CN was distinguished on multiple occasions at the IR Magazine Awards in Canada, making the top three in 2013, 2014 and 2015 before grabbing the first spot this year and taking home six awards from the 10 categories in which it was nominated, including the large cap grand prix. The Montreal-based firm was also featured in the Global Top 50 rankings for the past three years.
