Small and mid-caps punch above weight in Canada Awards nominations

The short lists for the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2017 see mid-cap and small-cap companies punching above their weight with multiple nominations.

Among the mid-caps, ARC Resources, the Canadian oil and gas producer, is nominated for an impressive six awards: best overall investor relations (mid-cap), best investor relations officer (mid-cap) for David Carey, best financial reporting, best use of technology, best investor meetings and best IR in the energy sector.

Gold producer Alamos Gold gets four nominations: best overall investor relations (mid-cap), best investor relations officer (mid-cap) for Scott Parsons, best IR by a CFO (small & mid-cap) for Jamie Porter and best IR in the materials sector.

Design and consulting firm Stantec also gets four nominations: best overall investor relations (mid-cap), best IR by a CFO (small & mid-cap) for Dan Lefaivre, best corporate governance and best IR in the industrials sector.

Small-cap construction company Aecon Group matches the latter two mid-caps with four nominations of its own: best overall investor relations (small cap), best investor relations officer (small cap) for Adam Borgatti, most progress in IR and best IR in the industrials sector.

The gala dinner for the awards will take place on February 2 in Toronto. The event remains the Canadian IR community’s largest annual gathering. In recent years, the awards program has expanded to recognize more aspects of investor relations, particularly the contributions of senior management, and to identify the best IR by sector.

The full short lists can be viewed here.

Prior to the awards, the IR Magazine Investor Perception Seminar – Canada 2017 will take place the same day to discuss IR trends and best practices.

In this highly interactive seminar, participants will be able to participate in three panel discussions with other IROs from across Canada. It will be an opportunity to review the most significant issues facing IR professionals in Canada and learn how others are planning to overcome them. The seminar is participant-driven and highly focused.
