What makes a standout investor meeting?

AstraZeneca received two accolades for its investor events this year.

First, the judges at the IR Magazine Awards – Europe 2017 awarded the firm best investor event for its session on DNA Damage Response, held in the British pub where the discovery of human DNA was first announced.

Second, AstraZeneca came out on top in the investor meetings section of the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study – Europe 2017, which bases its findings on a survey of the investment community. 

But what exactly are investors looking for in investor meetings? We’ve gathered some of the responses to the survey below to show why participants voted the way they did.

‘I like that AstraZeneca shares clinical aspects of the business with us. There is a great level of detail about the firm in presentations and about how it translates those details into commercial opportunities’ – Netherlands, buy side

EDP’s meetings provide a lot of information and also credibility. Sometimes senior management attends, usually at roadshows; otherwise we see the IROs, who are very professional and able to give us all we need’ – Portugal, sell side

BASF is very responsive and professional. It holds meetings that really add value’ – France, buy side

Deutsche Post DHL holds the meetings that give most insight into different areas. There are many speakers at conferences and they all know how to get the point across’ – Germany, sell side

UniCredit comes to see us regularly, which we appreciate very much. It has good transparency, not just repeating what’s on the website, but giving more insight. It is not only the IRO who visits, but other management people, such as the treasurer, as well’ – France, buy side 

‘Senior management at DSM is always very helpful in meetings’ – Germany, sell side

Allianz is the best, not only the IRO, but also the material the company sends you for earnings and investor days. It’s really well managed, as are the investor days’ – Germany, buy side

‘We just attended a capital markets day with adidas. All the relevant management members were there and it was very well organized’ – Germany, sell side

Compass Group has extremely well-organized IR. The team is excellent at creating investor days and conference calls. Factsheets on the website are also easy to find’ – Netherlands, sell side

Luxottica is available around the clock before and after results. It organizes investor days every year’ – France, sell side
