North America dominates Global Top 50 winners list

Companies hailing from China to the US have been named as Global Top 50 winners, with 10 firms taking home trophies after beating off international competitors to be crowned best in their respective sectors worldwide.

The list of winning companies, revealed at the close of the first day of the IR Magazine Global Forum & Awards, for the first time ranks companies by sector. The result is that this year’s Global Top 50 comprises 10 groups of five internationally renowned IR teams across 10 sectors.

It is North America that dominates the list, however, with three winning companies hailing from Canada and another three from the US. The 10-strong list is rounded out by two firms from Greater China and two from Europe – an Italian bank and a Spanish utility.

The winners, by sector, are:

Communications: China Telecom, Greater China

Consumer discretionary: Jack in the Box, US

Consumer staples: China Resources Beer, Greater China

Energy: ARC Resources, Canada

Financials (including real estate): Intesa Sanpaolo, Italy

Healthcare: Danaher, US

Industrials: CN, Canada

Materials: Agnico Eagle Mines, Canada

Technology: Salesforce.com, US

Utilities: Iberdrola, Spain

The Global Top 50 list is compiled using data from IR Magazine awards research across those countries or regions where local awards take place each year: Canada, the US, Europe, Greater China and South East Asia. The full list will be revealed in the winter issue of IR Magazine, due to be published at the end of November, when the magazine celebrates 30 years as the global voice of IR.

Winners were announced at an awards ceremony closing the first day of the Global Forum & Awards in the Netherlands. The ceremony also saw China Aviation Oil (Singapore) Corporation named as the people’s choice award winner, with the IR community voting right up to the big reveal.

The Global Forum & Awards is an annual, two-day event that sees IR professionals from across the globe gather to discuss best practice, emerging trends and the hot topics of the day. Having previously landed in New York and Paris, this year the event travelled to Amsterdam where delegates gained practical advice on Mifid II and corporate access, found out how ESG issues are influencing shareholder activists and took a look at the ways in which technology is changing the IR playing field.
