Tesla director of IR departs

Tesla’s director of investor relations, Aaron Chew, has left the company, adding to a long list of departures from the company this year.

Chew joined Tesla in 2016 after its acquisition of solar energy company Solar City in 2016, where he reported to senior director of IR Martin Viecha.

Chew was previously a sell-side equity research analyst on Wall Street with Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan.

Tesla’s senior ranks have seen high-profile exits in every month this year, with over 100 executives leaving Elon Musk’s electric car manufacturer in 2018.

Most recently, Dan Kim, previously a senior director of global sales, marketing and delivery, left to lead Airbnb Plus. Other departures this year include general counsel Todd Maron and head of global security Jeff Jones, who held his position less than a year.

Jon McNeill, the president of global sales and service, left Tesla in February after working at the company for two years, going on to join the ride-sharing company Lyft as company CEO.

Former chief accounting officer Dave Morton lasted less than a month working at Tesla – he started on August 6 and resigned on September 4.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has had an interesting year which has seen him smoke cannabis on a podcast, be charged by the SEC with misleading investors with tweets that said he was considering taking Tesla private, call a British cave diver a ‘paedo’ on Twitter and express his desire to move to Mars.
