Citi promotes head of IR to consumer banking CFO role

Banking giant Citigroup has named head of IR Susan Kendall as the new CFO of its consumer banking unit.

Kendall is replacing Nick Lyall, who recently retired from Citi after seven years in the role and 18 years with Citi. Kendall, who has been with the company for a decade, will take over the position from June 15, reporting directly to Mark Mason, Citigroup’s CFO, according to an internal memo seen by IR Magazine.

While the firm begins its search for a permanent replacement for the head of IR role, it says Elizabeth Lynn, who has worked as managing director in the IR team since 2013, will serve as interim head of investor relations, working with Kendall during the transition.

‘Susan is an outstanding talent. We are pleased to welcome her to the team as momentum continues to build in the Global Consumer Bank,’ says Stephen Bird, CEO of the Global Consumer Bank, Citi’s largest business, in a statement.

Kendall has been with the bank since 2009, joining as deputy head of IR before being promoted to lead the team in 2012.

She ‘has substantial investor relations, investment banking and general finance experience as well as in-depth knowledge of Citi and Citi Finance,’ according to the internal memo, which also notes that before joining Citi, she worked in IR at Lehman Brothers. The University of Chicago Booth School of Business MBA graduate has also held senior roles in investment banking, including structuring and marketing equity securities.
