Expert speakers tipped for IR Magazine Forum – Women in IR

The annual IR Magazine Forum – Women in IR is back by popular demand and is tipped to feature such expert speakers as last year’s forum, which included Ilene Fiszel Bieler, executive vice president and global head of IR at State Street, and Carolynne Borders, senior IR executive at GE.

The forum this year, which will be held in New York on April 27, focuses on how women in IR can advance their careers and help fellow professionals in the same capacity. It will include practical advice on how to balance the demands of the IR role with the demands of being a parent and look at how to build a more inclusive IR community.

Research findings

The panel sessions will also look at how the role of an IRO is evolving, what new skills are required and how to bridge the widening gender pay gap.

The need to tackle the gender pay gap was highlighted in the latest Women in IR 2022 report from IR Magazine. It finds more male IROs earn above the median salary range than female IROs do. But more men than women also earn below $100,000: 33 percent as opposed to 18 percent of women.

More than nine in 10 male IROs received a bonus last year, averaging 21 percent of salary. Fewer than eight in 10 women received a bonus, averaging 23 percent of salary.

According to the Women in IR report, just under a third of North American men working in IR came from corporate finance directly before joining the IR team. This compares with one in five women, as more women have come from other corporate backgrounds.

More men than women in North American IR come from a capital markets background, with two fifths having moved over from the investment side, compared with just 27 percent of women. North American women are more likely to have come from other backgrounds or to have always worked in IR.
