Xcel promotes Johnson to VP of IR

IR veteran Paul Johnson has been promoted to vice president of investor relations and financial management at Xcel Energy.

In addition to IR, Johnson has taken over responsibility for financial planning and analysis, and business area finance.

Previously, he was managing director of IR and assistant treasurer at the Minneapolis-based gas and electric utility, which serves eight Western and Midwestern states.

He has held a variety of other financial positions with Xcel Energy over his 28 years with the company.

Johnson has played an IR role at the regulated utility for the past decade and led the function since 2006.

‘IR has always had a prominent role at Xcel Energy,’ Johnson says, ‘but the VP title is new and really reflects the overall responsibility of my position, not a change in the role of IR’.

Johnson served on the board of the Twin Cities NIRI chapter for three years. He says he is not currently involved ‘due to the demands of my job’.

Johnson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Winona State University. He also has an MBA from the University of St Thomas.
