VimpelCom, a Dutch telecommunications firm, has received widespread acclaim for its updated corporate website after winning two industry awards in the past month.
The site – located at www.vimpelcom.com – was awarded the Investor Relations Standard of Excellence in the Web Marketing Association’s 2013 WebAwards and the Gold Award in the telecommunications category at the 2013 Stevie International Business Awards.

Founded in 1997, the Web Marketing Association aims to help set a high standard for internet marketing and development of the best and most innovative sites on the web. It also hosts the longest-running annual website awards, which target sites across a range of industries. The Stevie International Business Awards, meanwhile, examine nominations from individuals and organizations across the globe, including public, private and not-for-profit enterprises.
Vimpelcom’s site, launched in May 2013, boasts more than just an updated design. Through responsive design, the site’s layout adjusts for all screen sizes and devices, including desktops, tablets and smartphones. It also runs parallel to a specialized corporate app for iPad, so individual visitors are given a tailored experience.
VimpelCom’s IR website distills investor information into large icons
‘We have focused on delivering greater functionality, personalization and enhanced navigation features for the user,’ explains Nijman. Different aspects of VimpelCom’s corporate message are split into large icons, which expand to show users further information. Through the My VimpelCom feature, visitors can permanently group together their favorite parts of the site for easy viewing whenever they return.
VimpelCom is one of the world’s largest integrated telecommunications operators, and provides voice and data services through traditional and online-based technologies. Though based in the Netherlands, it operates systems as far afield as Russia, Laos, Algeria and Zimbabwe. As of June 2013, the firm boasted a combined total of 215 mn mobile subscribers across all its platforms.
