Boston Scientific names vice president of IR

Boston Scientific, the medial device company known for creating the world’s smallest heart pump, has appointed Susan Lisa as its new vice president of investor relations.

Lisa, who took up the role yesterday, brings more than 20 years’ experience in the financial and medical industries to the role, including ‘intensive knowledge’ of the medial technology industry, according to Boston Scientific.

Prior to joining Boston Scientific, Lisa served as senior director of IR and corporate development at Abiomed, a medical tech company focused on products that provide circulatory support.

Having started her career at JPMorgan Chase & Co, Lisa spent four years as an equity analyst covering medical technology at both Merrill Lynch and Cowen & Co before holding a number of roles in the equity division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, including head of specialist sales, before moving into IR.

She holds an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and is also a chartered financial analyst.

Boston Scientific, which is attempting a turnaround after taking on heavy debt since its 2009 purchase of Guidant Corp for $27 bn, expensive product recalls and declining sales of several of its products in recent years, announced in October that CFO Jeffrey Capello would be stepping down from the role at the end of the year.

From January 1, 2014, Daniel Brennan, who joined the firm in 1996 and is the company’s current corporate controller, will take over as CFO, though Boston Scientific says Capello is expected to stay with the firm as a senior adviser until May 2014.
