Asia Top 50: No 9 Kerry Logistics

Kerry Logistics, a newcomer to the All-Asia Top 50 in 2015, failed even to make an appearance in last year’s investor perception study. But that’s less surprising than it might seem: after all, the company only listed on the stock exchange at the very end of 2013. In light of that, its 2015 performance – winning three awards and being short-listed in two further categories, ranking fifth overall in South East Asia and ninth in the All-Asia Top 50 – is nothing short of impressive.

CFO Ellis Cheng sets the overall IR strategy and direction; Cheryl Yeung, who spent four years as IRO at a Chinese real estate company listed in Hong Kong, is the dedicated IRO, responsible for day-to-day communications with investors. Both are praised in the research.

In fact, says Yeung, ‘the team is backed by other members from the company’s headquarters in Hong Kong.’ She refers to this group – the CEO, CFO and IRO – as ‘the core IR team members’ and says the trio have regular meetings to ensure all external communication materials and guidance are timely, accurately reflect the situation at the company and are in sync, regardless of the channel used. ‘This ensures fair disclosure,’ she notes. ‘Our IR program is based on shareholder and investor needs and equal treatment. We do not set a particular geographical focus when it comes to IR. We try to allocate resources to match our current and desired shareholding structure.’

In geographical terms, she describes Kerry Logistics as ‘a Hong Kong-based company with a strong Asian foothold and growing international presence.’ That means it receives relatively higher attention and meeting requests in Asia, specifically Greater China and Singapore. ‘But our global network of investors is expanding along with our IR program,’ Yeung adds. The sell-side audience, too, is mostly in Hong Kong. The 900+ meetings, in various formats, held since the company’s market debut, have been in Asia, Australia, Europe and the US.
