Large caps looking to repeat success at IR Magazine Awards – Canada

The short lists for the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2017 see large-cap big hitters CN, the largest freight railroad company in North America, and Canadian gold producer Agnico Eagle Mines lead the field, clocking up an impressive eight nominations apiece.

CN is nominated for best overall investor relations (large cap), best investor relations officer (large cap) for Paul Butcher, best IR by a CEO (large cap) for Luc Jobin, best IR by a CFO (large cap) for Ghislain Houle, best financial reporting, best investor meetings, best corporate governance and best IR in the industrials sector.

Butcher was promoted to succeed Janet Drysdale as head of IR in August last year. An economics graduate of the University of Montreal, he started his career as an economist at Informetrica before joining CN in 1993 to work in financial planning and marketing. He was appointed senior IR manager in 2009.

Jobin will be looking to repeat last year’s success, when he won the Canada award for the best IR by a CFO at a large-cap firm. He took over as CEO in July 2016.

‘CN’s success in investor relations is truly a team effort,’ says Paul Butcher, vice president of investor relations. ‘We are all very honored to be nominated for so many recognitions by the investment community.’

Agnico Eagle Mines is also nominated in eight categories: best overall investor relations (large cap), best IR by a CEO (large cap) for Sean Boyd, best IR by a CFO (large cap) for David Smith, best use of technology, best investor meetings, best corporate governance, best sustainability practice and best IR in the materials sector.

Boyd will also be going for a double this year after picking up last year’s best CEO gong.
