In Asia, median salaries for both IR heads and IROs/IR managers are one bracket lower than the global norm, according to the IR Magazine Global Salary Report 2016.
Almost two thirds (65 percent) of Asian IR heads earn less than $150,000, while just 12 percent of IROs earn at least $100,000. Nearly half (47 percent) of Asian IROs have a base salary of less than $50,000.
On bonuses, European heads are the least likely to receive a bonus and Asian IR chiefs typically receive the lowest bonus both in real terms and as a percentage of their salary.
On a regional level, both IR heads and IROs in North America are the most likely to have their bonuses related to company or individual performance, while Asian IR chiefs and IROs are the most likely to have their bonuses related to IR team performance.
On pay differentials, the greatest equality in pay between men and women is found among European heads of IR. For both North American and Asian IR heads, median pay is one bracket higher for men than for women.
In North America, 30 percent of male IR chiefs earn at least $250,000 compared with 14 percent of female IR heads.
Half of Asian male IR bosses take a base salary of at least $150,000, while just over one in five of their female counterparts do likewise. Nearly two thirds of female Asian IROs earn less than $50,000 compared with 45 percent of men.
