China Telecom has climbed three places over the year to claim the crown in the Global Top 50, with the full ranking revealed in Paris following the first day of the IR Magazine Global Forum Conference & Awards.
The state-controlled Chinese telecom giant, which boasts more than 235 mn mobile customers, knocks Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company off the top spot and is followed by three US firms making up second, third and fourth place: Sherwin-Williams, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Jack in the Box.
Sharing fifth place are China Unicom and Spanish utility Iberdrola.
Regionally, US companies have turned out strongest this year, with 21 firms making it into the top 50. Also on double digits is Europe, with 13 companies making the global ranking. Canada has five, as does Greater China, while four Brazilian firms make the Top 50 as do two from South East Asia.
The Global Top 50 comprises data from IR Magazine’s regional awards research – covering the US, Canada, Brazil, Europe, Greater China (2016 research) and South East Asia (2016 research) – allowing us to compile a list of companies that go that extra mile for IR.
Each year the order of the top 20 companies is published, while the remaining 30 firms are listed in alphabetical order.
With the event coming to Paris for the first time and being held in association with Cliff (the French association for financial communication professionals) – which is celebrating its 30th year – IR Magazine this year also revealed a special France Top 5 ranking.
In first place among French companies is Total, with LVMH and Kering rounding out the top three. In fourth place is Sanofi, while Air Liquide completes the Top 5 country ranking.
