Agnico Eagle Mines has gone home the big winner from the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2019, taking five trophies including some of the most coveted awards of the night.

Rounding out Agnico Eagle Mines’ haul was the award for best financial reporting and the gong for best IR in the materials sector.

Some of the other big wins on the night saw ARC Resources take the best overall investor relations award in the mid-cap category, as well as the best investor relations officer (small & mid-cap) gong for head of IR Bevin Wirzba.

Kelt Exploration won the award for best investor relations in the small-cap category while the trophy for best IR by a senior management team (small & mid-cap) went to Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.

Judged awards

As well as the traditional researched awards – which see the investment community name those deemed best across a number of categories – each year a panel of judges also picks the best from a selection of self-nomination categories.

TD Bank was named best for ESG reporting, Empire Company took home the award for best IR during a corporate transaction, Canadian Pacific Railway won the trophy for best use of technology & social media for IR, and Ashley Connolly of Precision Drilling Corporation was named rising star.

The five-strong judging panel this year comprised IR Magazine editor Ben Ashwell, former TD Bank CFO Colleen Johnston, CIRI president and CEO Yvette Lokker, Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chair Walied Soliman and Malcolm White, portfolio manager at CI Investments.

In all, 25 trophies were handed out on the night, with Roberto Sbrugnera of Metro and Elaine Wyatt of Wyatt Strategic Communications sharing the lifetime achievement award.
