One of the keys to any successful IR program is building a working relationship with your shareholder community and ultimately fostering trust with the market.
This is the approach that Matt DeBerry, staff director, investor relations at FedEx, says he and his team constantly return to as a starting point.
Speaking to us on the red carpet ahead of the IR Impact Awards – US 2026, he said that this approach is particularly crucial on the road.
‘At the end of the day I’m selling trust,’ he said. ‘I am telling them the value proposition of our company and hopefully having them ultimately buy the stock.
‘That requires a level of trust and a level communication from IR that builds that conviction with the shareholder base.’
It proved to be a winning approach for DeBerry and the FedEx team later that night: he shared the rising star award with Etsy’s senior director of investor relations Sarah Marx.
