Leading investor relations professionals are increasingly adding strategic strings to their bow, both by leveraging their existing resources for impact in the capital markets and through gaining internal buy-in.
For Omar Khafagy, head of issuer relations at TMX Group, that growing strategic heft is what sets the very best IR teams apart from the pack.
Speaking to us at the IR Impact Awards – Canada 2026, Khafagy said that the great IROs that he has personally worked with share several key attributes.
‘First and foremost they treat disclosure as a strategic asset rather than simply just a compliance exercise,’ he explained. ‘Second thing is they’re genuinely fluent in both business and market, they get a seat at the table, they speak the C-suite’s language as well as the portfolio managers’ language.
‘But I think the great ones that truly stand out are the ones that maintain um access, transparency and build relationships.’
