Agnico Eagle Mines and RBC lead Canada short lists

Agnico Eagle Mines and RBC are leading the short list board for the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2019 with an impressive seven nominations each, with both competing for the title of best overall investor relations, best investor relations officer, and best IR by a senior management team, all in the large-cap category.

The winners of this year’s awards will be revealed at a gala event on April 3 at the Ritz Carlton in Toronto. Click here for more information and to book your seats

Agnico’s Brian Christie is in the running for the best IRO category, while CEO Sean Boyd and CFO David Smith have a nod for best IR by a senior management team. They will be going up against other companies including RBC, with Amy Cairncross and David Mun in the running to share the best IRO trophy, and RBC CEO David McKay and CFO Rod Bolger up for best IR by a senior management team.

ARC Resources and Suncor Energy follow with five nominations each, including for best overall IR (mid-cap) and best IRO (small & mid-cap) for Bevin Wirzba of ARC Resources (an award he won last year), while Suncor’s nominations include best overall IR and best IR by a senior management team for CEO Steve Williams and CFO Alister Cowan in the large-cap category.

Last year ARC Resources was the big winner on the night, taking home six awards. Among its five nominations this year, the oil & gas company is short-listed in two of the four awards-by-nomination categories: best ESG reporting and best use of technology & social media for IR.

The two other self-nomination awards this year are best IR during a corporate transaction and rising star, which is open to IROs who have been in the profession for five years or less. In the running are Samantha Taccone of CGI Group, Mark Chyc-Cies of Gibson Energy and Ashley Connolly of Precision Drilling Corporation.

The short lists and ultimate winners of the awards-by-nomination are chosen by a five-strong judging panel that this year comprises IR Magazine editor Ben Ashwell, former TD Bank CFO Colleen Johnston, CIRI president and CEO Yvette Lokker, Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chair Walied Soliman and Malcolm White, portfolio manager at CI Investments.
