Full agenda revealed for IR Magazine Think Tank – Canada 2019

Got a question for an investor or analyst you’ve always wanted to ask? At the upcoming IR Magazine Think Tank – Canada 2019, you’ll get the chance to have it answered.

The invitation-only event for senior, in-house IR professionals returns to Toronto on Thursday, October 3 with a new session: an open Q&A with investors and analysts. This will be a great opportunity to get inside the minds of the buy side and sell side and understand what they need from your company.

As usual, the think tank will also feature breaks for table discussions. Each session features a concise panel conversation on the stage, but afterwards you’ll have plenty of time to break down the issues with the IROs at your table. For many attendees, this is the most valuable part of the day.

So what does the agenda look like? Following a fireside chat on the current market landscape, the conversation will turn to shareholder activism. This is currently one of the top three concerns for directors and executives in the Canadian market. We’ll be discussing the latest ways to detect activist activity and how to prepare your company for a hostile campaign.

Later in the morning, a session will cover current best practices for targeting and shareholder engagement. The conversation will consider the value of non-deal roadshows and investor conference attendance in the wake of Mifid II, which has shaken up the status quo on both sides of the Atlantic. Speakers will also consider how to target institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds outside of Canada.

The final session before lunch will focus on IR careers, asking questions such as: what will the IR job look like in five years? How can IROs respond to higher demands with fewer resources? And what does the shift from active to passive strategies mean for the IR profession?

In the afternoon, attendees will get the chance to analyze the key investing trend of ESG, which surveys show is of increasing importance to Canadian investors. But is it the E, S or G that matters most? And how should you incorporate ESG into your reporting practices? This session will pick apart the trend to provide the most effective ways to engage with the buy side over ESG issues.

The event is completely free to attend for eligible IR professionals. Click here to find out more about the IR Magazine Think Tank – Canada 2019 and request an invitation.
