It was a year of inevitable change at the IR Magazine Awards – US. Covidien ruled the large-cap roost for five consecutive years but no longer exists after its merger with Medtronic. Stepping into its place, General Electric took two awards, including the grand prix for best overall investor relations (large cap).
No stranger to the Awards but out of the limelight in recent years, GE also took top spot in the IR Magazine US Top 100 ranking of companies by IR performance. Companies received their awards at a gala dinner held at Cipriani Wall Street, attended by more than 400 members of the US IR community and hosted by Bloomberg Television’s Ramy Inocencio.
Change also came in the form of new awards. The main awards were, as usual, decided by a survey of investors and analysts. But the broader public had a say in the people’s choice award for innovation, won by Old National Bank for its novel investor day, held in a deli and a football stadium. Another new category saw Papa Murphy’s crowned as the best growth company for IR, a prize voted for by users of Equities.com.
Citizens Financial Group, which completed its spin-off from RBS Group in the fall of 2015, capped its comeback to the public markets by claiming the grand prix for best overall investor relations (mid-cap).
Amid the shifting winners and categories, Wright Medical maintained its small-cap dominance, winning the best overall IR category for the third year in a row.
The full research behind the awards can be found in the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study – US 2016. The report
includes ranking data for more than 300 US-listed companies, interviews with highly ranked investor relations teams and research into investor views on IR practice.
