Agnico Eagle stresses the importance of getting out on the road

Agnico Eagle Mines walked away from the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2017 with five awards – making it the biggest winner on the night, tied with ARC Resources.

Its achievement is particularly notable for its C-suite’s clean sweep, with wins for CEO Sean Boyd, CFO David Smith and the best overall trophy.

Speaking on the red carpet before the firm’s impressive performance, Brian Christie, vice president of investor relations at Agnico Eagle Mines and IR Magazine editorial advisory board member, said he benefits from a culture that has always been IR-centric, starting with the Agnico Eagle Mines founder.

‘There’s a very strong focus on investor relations at Agnico,’ Christie said. ‘I think it goes back to the original founder, Paul Penna, who was always engaged with our shareholders.’

Stressing the importance of hitting the road, and the benefits of being able to do so with so many senior leaders, Christie added: ‘We market extensively. We did about 500 one-on-ones last year… it’s a very important part of what we do and I feel very fortunate that I can take most of my C-suite out with me. I even take some of my vice presidents.’

Agnico Eagle Mines was praised in IR Magazine’s recent investor perception survey, with one sell-side analyst saying the company ‘provides excellent access to senior management at its meetings and events.’
