Conference snapshots: CIRI Annual Conference 2017

June 11-13
Kelowna, British
Columbia

Shine bright
CIRI enjoys a major milestone in 2017: it’s the 30th anniversary of the annual conference, hence the tagline ‘brilliant IR’. Expect a few trips down memory lane as part of the week’s activities.

Polishing up
Being brilliant sounds like a tall order, but one conference speaker says she can help. Motivational speaker and communications expert Mary-Jo Dionne delivers a talk on Monday afternoon about how to identify the ‘clues, traits, habits and perspectives’ that lead to brilliance in your work and beyond.

Discover Kelowna
Nestled on the side of Okanagan Lake, Kelowna has plenty of outdoor activities to pick from. On Sunday morning, attendees can choose between a cycling tour, wine and cheese tasting, fishing or a golf tournament at Harvest Valley Golf Course.

Keynote sessions
Want to get inside the mind-set of one of Canada’s largest fund managers? Then you won’t want to miss the keynote speech from Chris Lawless, chief economist at the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation, which manages more than $110 bn in assets. Another must-see is the CEO keynote, delivered by Randy Smallwood, president and CEO of Silver Wheaton, one of the world’s largest precious metals streaming companies.

Mind merge
Try to make time for the power lunch on the final day, where you’ll hear IROs discuss best practice communications for M&A. On the panel are two IR professionals with huge amounts of experience to share: Richard Downey, who received CIRI’s Belle Mulligan award for leadership in IR in 2013, and Janet Craig, a winner of IR Magazine Awards at multiple companies.
