TD Bank retains lead at IR Magazine Awards – Canada

TD Bank Group has been named the top Canadian company for investor relations at the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2015. For the full list of winners, click here.

TD Bank secured six awards at this year’s awards event, held on February 4 at the Fairmont Royal York in TD’s home city of Toronto, including the grand prix for best overall IR by a large-cap company, best IR by a CFO at a large-cap company for Colleen Johnston and best IR by a company in the financials sector.

And, for the first time, Rudy Sankovic, TD’s investor relations officer for the last four years, won the award for best large-cap IRO. The group has also held on to its first place in the Canada Top 50 rankings.

TD did not win best IR by a CEO this year, however, reflecting the departure of CEO Ed Clark, multiple winner of this award in recent years. This year’s top CEO award went to Charles Brindamour of Intact Financial. Intact has been racing up the Canada Top 50 over the last few years and this year rises to fifth position in the rankings from 10th place last year.

ARC Resources, the energy company, won the grand prix for best IR by a mid-cap company as well as best IR by a company in the energy sector and best IRO at a mid-cap company for long-time IRO David Carey. Impressively for a mid-cap, ARC also ranks second in the Canada Top 50.

Third placed in the Canada Top 50 this year is CN, last year’s runner-up and winner of five awards in 2015. This marks CN’s fourth year in the top three.

Ranking fourth is mid-cap miner Agnico Eagle Mines, which won the award for best company in the materials sector and best IR by a CEO at a mid-cap company for Sean Boyd. He inspired one of the most enthusiastic compliments from an investor: ‘He’s so available. If you called him and asked him for a meeting in the South Pole, he’d be there yesterday.’

The IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2015 were decided by an independent telephone survey of more than 270 analysts and investors based in Canada. Similar to IR Magazine’s other awards in the US, Europe and Asia, members of the investment community are asked to vote for the company they get the best IR service from in each awards category.

More information about the methodology employed, the views of analysts and investors, the award-winning companies and their IR programs can be found in the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study – Canada 2015, which is now available to download.

This annual report on investor relations in Canada includes comments from investors and analysts about IR in Canada generally as well as about the top-ranked companies in particular. It also profiles the top 10 companies and lists each company mentioned in IR Magazine’s survey.
