Iron Mountain names new head of IR as industry veteran readies for retirement

Boston-headquartered storage and information-management firm Iron Mountain has named Greer Aviv as its new senior vice president of IR.

Aviv will take on the role from October 1, replacing IR veteran Melissa Marsden, who has announced her retirement after six years leading IR at Iron Mountain and more than 35 years in investor relations overall.

Rather than hand over the position completely, however, Marsden will transition her responsibilities to Aviv by the end of the year, according to a statement from Iron Mountain.

The firm, which was founded in 1951, has a real estate network of more than 85 mn square feet, across 1,400+ facilities in more than 50 countries. Iron Mountain stores ‘billions in valued assets’ including ‘critical business information, highly sensitive data and cultural and historical artefacts’, and is employed by more than 225,000 organizations.

During her time with Iron Mountain, Marsden transitioned the investor base and enhanced financial disclosure following the company’s successful conversion to a real estate investment trust (Reit) in 2014, ‘and drove inclusion in major Reit and SRI indexes,’ notes Iron Mountain.

‘Melissa’s deep IR and communications experience and her relationships within the investment community were very valuable as Iron Mountain became a Reit and evolved its global market leadership position,’ comments Stuart Brown, executive vice president and CFO, in the company statement, adding that she ‘has been a key member of the finance leadership team, and we wish her the best in her well-deserved retirement.’

He also welcomes Aviv, who served most recently as head of IR at data center Reit CoreSite, to Iron Mountain, to which she brings 20 years of finance and communications experience. ‘The investor and analyst relationships she has nurtured within the Reit and technology sectors are a great fit with Iron Mountain’s investment focus in the data center space,’ says Brown.

During her time at CoreSite and following the company’s 2010 IPO, Aviv successfully attracted technology-focused and generalist analysts, ‘more than doubling the number of sell-side analysts and diversifying the investor base,’ according to the statement welcoming her to Iron Mountain.

Prior to CoreSite, Aviv was head of IR for Arrow Electronics and an analyst in the consumer goods sector earlier in her career.
