Total names former analyst as head of IR

Total, the French mega-cap oil and gas company, has named Brendan Warn as its new senior vice president of IR.

Having taken over the role from Mike Sangster at the start of this month, Warn comes most recently from BMO Capital Markets in London where he served as managing director and UK head of equity research. He continues to be based in London in his new role at Total.  

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) MBA graduate boasts 13 years’ equity research experience across three investment banks – including Macquarie Capital and Jefferies International in London.

Warn also has mining experience from his time spent as a mining engineer at BHP in Australia, having qualified as a mining engineer at UNSW, according to a Total press release announcing his appointment. 

Warn succeeds Sangster, a Total veteran who has been with the company since 1995 and who was appointed to lead the IR team in 2015. The company has not specified whether Sangster remains with the firm or not. 

The energy major, which has around 100,000 employees and operates in 130 countries, last week joined blockchain-based commodities trading platform Vakt. The platform, based on the technology behind Bitcoin, was launched last year by a consortium of oil and gas firms including BP, Royal Dutch Shell and Norway’s Equinor and aims to digitalize and centralize trades, in a bid to ‘eliminate paper-based processes’ and ‘streamline post-trade processes’.
