IROs require a fundamental knowledge of their company, according to Scott Fulton, associate director of investor relations at Just Retirement. He suggests that new IR professionals should communicate with every department that has a bearing on earnings and the ethos of the business. In particular, IROs must understand the operation of their finance department and the reporting procedure, Fulton notes, adding that it is important to become comfortable talking with investors and analysts.
