‘Focus less on reporting activity and more on explaining impact’: Technip Energies’ Phillip Lindsay on separating signal from noise

What does it take to go from awards bridesmaid to double winner in a single year? Phillip Lindsay, VP of investor relations at Technip Energies, says that the key is being able to separate the signal from the noise.

After eight years building his IR career – five and a half of them at Technip Energies – Lindsay’s team went from three shortlisted nominations at the 2025 IR Impact Awards with nothing to show for it, to walking away this year with two: best overall investor relations (mid cap) and best investor relations officer (mid cap).

In this episode, he shares the philosophy that’s driven that turnaround, starting with a hard truth about how most IR teams handle investor feedback. Too many, he argues, hand over raw sentiment data without any interpretation of what it actually means or how representative it is, leaving noise where there should be signal.

We talk through his path to the top of the IR function at the French, Euronext Paris-listed engineering and technology company serving the energy and chemicals sectors, his approach to separating what matters from what doesn’t, and why this particular award season landed at such a meaningful moment, both for the company and for him personally.
