Morrow Sodali top 40 activist quarterly ownership analysis – Third quarter 2022

This report from Morrow Sodali outlines the major trends occurring globally amongst activist investors’ portfolios.

Using a proprietary model quantifying criteria such as reputation, number of campaigns/outcomes, tactics/focus, board seats won and recency of engagements, the Morrow Sodali Top 40 Activists (MS40) list is narrowed down from the pool of global investors.

This resource includes data on the following notable trends from Q3 2022:

  • Which were the largest new positions by activists and the largest buys & sells in Q3 2022?
  • During the quarter, activist holders liquidated more investments than they initiated, which was true in every industry sector with the exception of one. Which sector bucked the trend?
  • There was a far more global orientation in the third quarter, with almost half of the new positions by activists in global companies, including the four largest new positions. Additionally, new investments in the Netherlands, Japan, and Israel led to net increases for the quarter in Europe, APAC, and the Middle East.
