David de la Roz Fernandez of eDreams ODIGEO on small-cap IR challenges

‘As a small-cap company, you don’t get enough support from the brokers’

The IR goals for 2023 at eDreams ODIGEO include developing more direct relationships with investors and providing additional support on strategy, according to David de la Roz Fernandez, director of IR at the online travel business.

Speaking on the red carpet at the IR Magazine Awards – Europe 2023, de la Roz Fernandez said: ‘We are working on two things: on the external side, we continue working on the engagement and targeting in terms of investors, because we feel that as a small-cap company, you don’t get enough support from the brokers.

‘Internally, we have tried to become more like a strategy function. We try to do much more work in terms of competitor analysis, in terms of different drivers – we think it is important for employees within the company to understand what is driving our share price.’

Good IR is about ‘quality not quantity,’ added de la Roz Fernandez. IR teams ‘have to make sure’ the individuals they spend time with are ‘going to spread the word about your equity story,’ he said.

Later at the event, eDreams ODIGEO won the prizes for best overall IR (small cap) and best IR officer (small cap) for de la Roz Fernandez.
