‘It’s the most important part of our job: supporting management credibility’
Natural gas company Cenovus Energy was one of this year’s winners at the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2023, taking home the prize for best IR in the energy sector.
The company was also nominated for best overall investor relations (large cap) and best ESG reporting (large cap). Sherry Wendt, vice president of downstream strategy and fundamentals at the firm, was nominated for best investor relations officer (large cap).
Wendt, who has a background in law, spoke to IR Magazine at the awards about the company’s plans to continue building trust with investors and the importance of supporting management credibility within the market.
‘We take it very, very seriously,’ she said. ‘I think it’s the most important part of our job, supporting management credibility, and that’s what we enjoy the most.
‘As an energy, oil and gas company in particular, this means so much to us. Since its inception, ESG messaging has been very important for us. I think we’ve been a leader in our sector and to actually be recognized for it is fantastic.’
