Slate Asset Management promotes IR lead to managing director

Slate Asset Management has promoted Katie Fasken to managing director of investor relations, effective immediately.

Slate Asset Management is a real estate-focused alternative investment platform with more than $6.5 bn in assets under management. Fasken, who joined the firm in 2016, has held a variety of investor relations roles, starting as an associate and rising to director and then vice president.

In her new role, Fasken is responsible for leading the firm’s capital-raising and investor relations efforts. She was promoted in ‘recognition of her significant contributions to the firm,’ says Blair Welch, Slate Asset Management’s founder-partner, in a press release.

‘Katie is a trusted adviser and has cultivated close relationships with our institutional investors where she puts their best interests at heart,’ Welch continues. ‘I am confident she will help guide our business to further success.’

Prior to joining Slate Asset Management, Fasken held roles on the investment banking team and institutional equity sales desk at CIBC World Markets.

Speaking to IR Magazine in March, Tyra Jeffries, founder and CEO of CreativeCap Advisors, said the prevalence of IR roles on the buy side is increasing. ‘The role has grown to become more multi-dimensional, resulting from a developing need from asset managers to more competitively position their product,’ she said.

‘The pool of candidates vying for these coveted spots has recreated and expanded the identity of what an investor relations professional at a fund looks like today. Investment bankers, former allocators, equity analysts, communications professionals and institutional sales executives are the frequently cited [previous roles] of those applying for these positions.’
