Rising star: What the Greater China and South East Asia judges are looking for

The self-entry nominations are now open for both the IR Magazine Awards – Greater China 2022 and the IR Magazine Awards – South East Asia 2022. Deadlines for admissions are midnight (HKT) and midnight (SGT) on Friday, August 19.

At last year’s awards, Christine Yang from Central China Real Estate took home the rising star trophy in Greater China, while in South East Asia, Crissa Bondad of D&L Industries in the Philippines won.

Garnet Roach, senior reporter at IR Magazine and judge for both the IR Magazine Awards Greater China – 2021 and the IR Magazine Awards South East Asia – 2021

‘This is a category that can be tricky to judge. Sometimes some of the judges on the panel will have personal experience of the nominees; other times it is simply about relying on what we have in front of us. For me, there are two elements that make for a good entry in the rising star category: clear and detailed information about the changes that person brought to the company and the results those activities produced – ideally including external and internal feedback – and a sense of personality.

‘For me, getting that sense of who someone is and of his or her passion for investor relations can make a real difference – especially in a category where all the short-listed IROs really are rising stars.’

This year, the as-yet undecided judging panel will choose the best in IR from across eight categories at each event:

  • Best annual report
  • Best crisis management
  • Best ESG materiality reporting
  • Best investor event
  • Best IR during a corporate transaction
  • Best IR website
  • Best use of multimedia for IR
  • Rising star.
