Playbook: How to build a long-term relationship with retail

When it comes to investor relations and retail investors, there is a disconnect – a gap in engagement that offers a real opportunity for those companies that build a meaningful relationship with retail.

At present, too few companies are really talking to potential or even existing retail shareholders. For example, 68 percent of retail investors rarely or never listen to an earnings call; 67 percent rarely or never visit the IR website. Still, these people say they would appreciate more and better engagement.

Some companies do a great job on retail though. We hear how these IR teams are learning about their retail holders – from the topics that interest them to where they consume financial information – and using that information to drive fruitful, long-term relationships. The findings highlight how easy it is to take what you already have and deliver meaningful content to your retail base.
