‘We are important to the fabric of economies, globally and in Canada’
Construction company Aecon Group was one of the winners at the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2023, taking home three prizes, including best ESG reporting (small cap).
The company also won best overall investor relations (small cap) while Adam Borgatti, senior vice president of corporate development and investor relations at Aecon, won best investor relations officer (small cap).
At the awards, we spoke to Borgatti about the company’s ESG strategy and the importance of IROs expanding their communications in this area.
‘For Aecon, it’s all about how we can operationalize sustainability in every aspect,’ Borgatti said. ‘We truly look at each of those verticals – environmental, social and governance – as very much on par and important to us. Sustainability for us is a mission, it’s part of our DNA and it’s where we’re pivoting right now toward the energy transition and a more sustainable business.’
We also asked him about the themes affecting the industrial sector and how they relate to investor relations.
‘Industrials has really demonstrated that it’s an essential service and that we are important to the fabric of economies, globally and in Canada,’ Borgatti said. ‘I think communicating that message out there and demonstrating the importance of very stable investable companies such as the industrial sector is what we’re very proud of. We hope there’s lots more appetite for investment in this sector.’
