Investor and IRO challenges differ in bullish and bearish markets
Scalens’ co-founder and CEO Bénédicte Hautefort was one of the speakers at the panel session ‘Overcoming the challenges to ESG data collection’ at the IR Magazine ESG Integration Forum – Europe.
Speakers offered insights on how to effectively collect solid and reliable data that will help firms develop effective ESG targets and measure progress.
From identifying issues material to a specific business operating in a certain industry to preparing for future greenhouse emission requirements, panelists offered actionable advice to investor relations professionals.
After the session, IR Magazine grabbed a one-to-one chat with Hautefort for targeted advice on how to manage ESG goals and increasing ESG activism in a bearish market.
‘I am not sure investors are nervous, as they are able to anticipate [market moves] and be successful in [both] bullish and bearish markets,’ she said. ‘It’s not the same for corporates. The challenges for IROs are to be able to anticipate possible [accusations] and [navigate] the ESG [movement]. ESG is a new area, [still] a little bit gray and more open to criticism, and therefore activism.’
